Minors

MINORS - PIERCING

Children under the age of 12 are FORBIDDEN to enter the studio.

Currently, in Croatia, there is no legal regulation regarding the age limit for piercing, so each salon determines its own rules according to its own ethical standards.

At Octopus piercing studio, the following rules apply:

  • Below 12 years old – we do not pierce any positions (including earlobe piercings). No exceptions.
  • From the age of 12 – we pierce only earlobe piercings.
  • From the age of 14 – we pierce earlobe piercings, ear cartilage (except industrial), eyebrow, nostril, lip, and smiley.
  • From the age of 15 – we pierce all positions except microdermals, nipples, and genitals.

A MINOR MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY ONE PARENT
(not the entire family!)

Both the minor and the parent must have personal identification cards or passports. If the addresses and/or last names on the documents are different, please bring a birth certificate or other documents that contain all the same information to establish the kinship. If the parent cannot come to the salon, they can contact us by phone at 095-OCTOPUS (0956286787) to make arrangements.

Siblings and other relatives cannot give permission for piercing instead of the parent. If a minor has a guardian who is not their biological parent, in addition to personal identification cards or passports, a document proving guardianship must be presented.

If you want to pierce your child’s ears (under 12 years of age), please read the section that pertains to the use of the so-called “piercing gun”, which is used in jewelry stores.

For Parents:

If your child wants a piercing, and you don’t allow it, they may decide to get pierced on their own or find someone at school who will do it in completely unhygienic conditions. Unfortunately, there are more and more people engaged in amateur piercing and tattooing because they believe it is not a difficult job and that they know enough about it.
You can always visit a piercing studio, with or without your child, and inquire about the working conditions in the salon, the equipment used, the jewelry, the consequences of piercing, and more. In the case that your child is pierced at Octopus, you can be with them to observe the entire process to ensure that everything used during piercing is sterile.
Please coordinate with each other before coming to the salon regarding the position and jewelry to avoid uncomfortable situations and disputes in front of other clients and salon staff.

Reasons we do not perform earlobe piercings on children under 12 years old:

  1. All parts of the body are in development, including the ears. Piercings made in early childhood often end up too low and/or asymmetrical when the child grows, causing dissatisfaction in adulthood, especially when attempting to create a beautiful row of earrings if they choose to add more piercings to the earlobes. Holes that are 10 or more years old are unlikely to completely close up, making it almost impossible to create a harmonious row of earrings on earlobes that were initially pierced incorrectly.
  2. Small children are not aware of the potential complications that can occur with piercings, especially during the healing period. Infections, inflammation, hypertrophic tissue growth, swelling, and more are possible. The most common cause of piercing problems is inadequate care – sleeping on the piercing, touching it with unwashed hands, playing with the jewelry, changing it too frequently or too soon, and wearing jewelry made of non-implantation materials (especially silver and costume jewelry/bijouterie).
  3. Piercing is painful. The pain is not terrible or unbearable, but for a young child, it can be an unpleasant experience. Since the work of a piercer requires a lot of concentration and a calm environment, we do not want to put our staff or other clients in a situation where they have to work or get pierced in the same room as a crying child. Most adult clients are also afraid of piercing, and this situation would not be helpful.

Please understand and respect the salon’s rules because we cannot make exceptions just because “the child really wants it,” “all the kids in the class already have their ears pierced,” or a parent cannot say “no” and explain the reasons for waiting to get pierced.

Earlobe piercing is like most other piercings – a wound in the body that requires a certain amount of time to heal, potentially weakening the immune system, and requiring adequate care. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of taking your 5-year-old child to get their tongue pierced, think twice about earlobe piercing. Tongue piercing heals faster and with a lower percentage of problems than earlobe piercing. (This is just a comparison, and we do not advocate tongue piercing in young children, even though it might give you a few days of silence.)  ????
